Biodegradable saluyot nursery pots for seedling shops and hobby growers

Use pots made from coconut coir, rice husk, or compressed paper to start saluyot seeds directly in biodegradable containers. Choose a pot size around 7–10 centimeters in diameter for individual seedlings; this is large enough to hold soil but small enough for easy handling and faster root development. Fill each pot with a light, well-draining seedling mix, such as a combination of compost, coconut coir, and sand, keeping it slightly moist but not waterlogged. A quick way to check moisture is to press your finger about a centimeter into the soil—if it feels dry, water lightly. Sow one or two seeds per pot, covering them with a thin layer of soil, around half a centimeter deep, to avoid burying the seeds too deep. Place the pots in a shaded area or under indirect sunlight until seedlings emerge; direct harsh sun can dry out the soil and damage young leaves.

For watering, a gentle misting bottle works better than pouring water from a hose, which can displace soil or seeds. Rotate the pots occasionally so all seedlings receive even light, promoting straight and healthy growth. Common beginner mistakes include overwatering, using pots that are too large, or transplanting too early, which can stress the young plants. When moving seedlings to larger beds or garden plots, plant the entire pot in the soil. Ensure the top edge of the biodegradable pot is just slightly above soil level to allow gradual decomposition while preventing waterlogging. Small shops can bundle sets of 6–12 pots, labeling them with instructions on watering, light, and planting, which makes it convenient for home gardeners and reduces the risk of transplant shock.

This approach is practical for hobby growers and seedling shops alike, as it combines convenience, eco-friendliness, and the gentle care that saluyot seedlings need for strong early growth. By paying attention to moisture, light, and pot size, you increase the success rate of seedlings, and using biodegradable pots means less labor and waste during the planting stage.
